Lesser Flamingos never breed at Lake Bogoria.

The most saline and alkaline of Kenya’s Rift Valley lakes, Bogoria is perhaps also the most dramatic. The Siracho Escarpment rises abruptly from the lake’s eastern shore, while spectacular hot springs and steam geysers are clustered on the flatter western shoreline and in the south. This 107km2 reserve is a major feeding ground for hundreds of thousands of Lesser Flamingo. They come to feed on the blue-green algae Spirulina, which sometimes gives the lake a greenish colour.
